The Pokémon Company announced on the Pokémon Presents stream for Pokémon Day today that Pokémon Concierge, a slice-of-life stop-motion series about Haru, a former office worker who comes to work as a concierge at a Pokémon Resort where Pokémon are taken care of as guests, will release its second season on Netflix this September! And as part of the promotion and celebration of this year’s Pokémon Day, the first season of the series is also currently streaming for free on The Official Pokémon Youtube channel until March 9th!
We’ve known the second season has been in production since February 2024, so it’s been a year-long wait to finally hear more news about the show’s return. A new trailer was unveiled alongside the announcement, showing highlights from the first season as well as a new visual of Haru and Psyduck relaxing on a sunny blue-sky day in a field in front of a windmill, as a Dragonite flies by and a Shinx and Luxray walk past. Stop-motion test footage was also shown of a Shinx, an Arcanine, and a Corphish, demonstrating the personality in their movements.
Pokémon Concierge is one of the latest series in the Pokemon franchise to experiment in reaching new audiences through new mediums and stories. In Concierge’s case, it speaks to millennials who grew up with Pokémon and have now entered the workforce, uncertain how to navigate the pressures and responsibilities of adulthood while still finding outlets to express their creativity, have fun, and enjoy life. The series is a very thoughtful and therapeutic watch and highly recommended for Pokémon fans of all ages, as it can be appreciated and enjoyed on many different levels from the craft and beauty of its stop-motion animation, the maturity of its themes and messages, its comfy vibes, and of course, all the cute Pokémon inhabiting its world.
Pokémon Concierge is one of my favorite entries in the franchise to date, and I’ve talked about each episode extensively on the Gotta Recap ‘Em All podcast. I’ve also written a review of the series going into more detail about the themes and animation of the show, which you can read if you’re interested in knowing more about it, as well as interviewed NON, the voice actress of Haru.
