Another digital manga platform where you can read Kodansha and Square Enix titles has arrived, as Japanese mobile services company NTT Docomo has announced the U.S. rollout of their new manga digital platform, Manga Mirai. Manga Mirai is a partnership between multiple companies, including MyAnimeList, Japanese entertainment company Akatsuki Group, and Japanese e-book and localization company Media DO. It makes sense why all of these entities have joined forces given how each specializes in different areas of promoting, marketing, formatting, and hosting manga on digital platforms. Manga Mirai is available on web, Android, and iOS.
Leveraging their combined strengths, Manga Mirai promises a large library of titles to browse and buy with purchases possible both on-site and through MyAnimeList. They currently offer over 11,000 volumes from 780 titles from Kodansha, Square Enix, and Media DO. To help users navigate the site and find manga they’re looking for, they have widgets on the front page assorted by genre, tags, author, and publisher. They particularly spotlight through a dedicated page and other displays manga that have anime adaptations in both the current and previous seasons so fans can find and jump into the manga after having gotten into or finished the anime.
They also provide other promotional offers, currently listing a line-wide sale of Kodansha manga with several titles having their first volumes discounted to $0.99 with other volumes in the series also being discounted 50%. This promotion will be available until March 10th, 2025.
In addition to Kodansha and Square Enix titles, Manga Mirai also indicates Yen Press titles will be added in the future, which would distinguish the platform from its competitors considering Yen Press titles are currently available to purchase digitally primarily through Bookwalker and Amazon. Manga Mirai also notably offers a few manga exclusively available on the service, including English editions of previously untranslated titles and “original” manga specifically made for the site, which you see in the images below, with promises of more on the way.
Additionally, they have a suggestion form for registered users to submit title requests for manga they would like to see added and read on the service.
Though there are already many different platforms to read the majority of the titles offered, competing platforms can encourage each one to up their game in their UI and exclusives. As a joint-venture between many different and experienced partners in the digital manga distribution space, Manga Mirai may very well live up to its promise as the manga platform of the future.
